Nvidia’s AI could revolutionize interactions with video game characters

Nvidia, a chip-manufacturer, is using AI to bring more realism to conversations with non-player characters (NPCs) in video games. The firm’s Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) allows developers to create NPCs with their own personalities, goals and backstories, which can respond to natural language and generate facial expressions based on a player’s audio inputs. Nvidia CEO and co-founder Jensen Huang said the technology could help to bridge the digital divide, enabling anyone to become a programmer. ACE uses real-time conversations with NPCs and animated facial expressions, enabling player interactions to fit the context of the game.
