Nvidia Drives Deep Learning GPU Demand after Crypto Mining Decline Following Chatbot GPT Advancement

Date:

The emergence and growth of ChatGPT and similar AI applications has inevitably led to a significant increase in demand for NVIDIA’s H100 deep learning GPUs, with the units being sold for an eye-watering price tag of $40,000 or more. Thanks to these tools and their associated hardware, AI language learning has become a very desirable asset in recent years. While crypto mining might not be the hubbub it once was (considering Ethereum recently switched to a proof-of-stake mechanism, and the uncertainty surrounding the exchange’s upgrade), major cloud computing players such as Amazon, Microsoft and Oracle are now offering H100 series Hopper GPUs to service this growing demand.

John Carmack, a tech industry heavy-weight, is just one of the numerous individuals who’ve enthralled by the possibilities of what AI brings. ChatGPT and its brothers were trained using no less than 10,000 NVIDIA GPUs, with technology agencies unsurprisingly set to produce new types of hardware to assist learning in the future. What’s more, 2023 is predicted to be a ground-breaking year within this ecosystem, with projects in the space showing great potential.

NVIDIA, the industry leader in computer graphics, was founded in 1993 and has since seen enormous success. The American-based company is focused on enabling real-time computer graphics for games, virtual reality, and other applications, as well as offering GPU-accelerated computing for AI, deep learning and data science. Its already available offerings, such as the NVIDIA H100, have only grown due to the highly-demand of their applications in the AI world.

Similarly, John Carmack has seen huge success in the tech sector. As the Chief Technology Officer of the game studio Oculus VR, Carmack is responsible for breakthroughs in the gaming industry and is set to lead the team toward its ambitious projects in this space. Famed for his work in developing the game engines for Doom, Quake, and Rage, Carmack is also the CTO at Armadillo Aerospace – a company focused on developing spacecraft. Over the years, his fascination with AI has become increasingly obvious as he has made vocal his belief that AI could lead to a new generation of gamers and game makers alike.
