Nokia Launches MX Workmate: AI-Powered Solution for Industrial Workers to Enhance Efficiency and Safety

Date:

Nokia, the Finnish telecom gear maker, has introduced MX Workmate, its operational technology (OT) solution powered by Generative AI (GenAI) and large language module (LLM). With this new solution, industrial workers will find it easier to interact with complex machines.

MX Workmate utilizes GenAI and LLM to generate contextual and human-like language content based on real-time OT data. This enables workers to understand complex machines better, receive real-time status information, and helps industries achieve greater flexibility, productivity, sustainability, and worker safety improvement.

A survey conducted by consulting firm Korn Ferry predicts a shortage of 85 million skilled tech workers worldwide by 2030, resulting in a potential loss of $8.5 trillion in revenue. Nokia believes that the use of AI tools can help alleviate this shortfall while enhancing the capabilities of existing employees.

Reece Hayden, Senior Analyst at ABI Research, commented on the significance of Nokia MX Workmate, stating, Strict operational technology (OT) requirements have, so far, slowed deployments on the production floor. Nokia MX Workmate is the first Gen AI solution designed for production floors that effectively addresses many of these challenges. It provides contextually relevant and real-time information exchange between connected workers and complicated OT-systems in a secure and reliable way using natural human language.

Stephan Litjens, Vice President of Enterprise Solutions at Nokia, emphasized the importance of AI in industrial transformation. He stated, MX Workmate leverages the combined benefits of our One platform for business-critical wireless connectivity with OT compliant on-prem compute edge for I4.0 applications and worker devices. MX Workmate Generative AI LLM capabilities will change the OT environment, enabling industries to enhance their teams’ skills to improve efficiency, increase productivity, and fully integrate IT/OT operations.

Nokia’s GenAI-powered OT solution comes at a time when industries are seeking innovative technologies to bridge the gap caused by the shortage of skilled workers. With its ability to generate human-like language content based on real-time data, MX Workmate is poised to make a positive impact on enhancing efficiency and productivity while ensuring worker safety.

The introduction of AI tools like MX Workmate may alleviate some of the challenges faced by industries, enabling them to achieve greater flexibility, improved productivity, and overall integration of IT/OT operations. As industries continue to undergo transformation, solutions like MX Workmate will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between human workers and complex machines in pursuit of operational excellence and innovation.
