Next-Generation Sequencing Reports Deliver Valuable Recommendations

ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence platform, has shown promising results in developing next-generation sequencing reports to outline treatment strategies for non-small cell lung cancer patients with driver oncogenes, according to a study presented at the ASCO Annual Meeting. The University of Illinois Cancer Center researchers found that the platform’s recommendation relevance was moderate and accuracy was limited, but given the complex nature of the process and the lack of training provided to the platform, the results appear promising, they said. While there was high variability across NSCLC oncogenes, the researchers said that large language model AI platforms may generate more accurate and relevant reports as they mature. Healio spoke with Zacharie Hamilton, a third-year medical student at University of Illinois School of Medicine, about the study’s implications.
