New Smart Scale From Withings Connects to iPhone and Has ‘Eyes Closed’ Feature

Date:

Today, Withings unveiled the newly launched Body Smart, an iPhone-connected smart scale with advanced features and a reasonable price tag of $100. This scale harnesses Withings Precision Technology, a combination of multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis, precision weight transistor sensors, and sophisticated algorithms to give an in-depth weigh and body composition analysis.

Bioelectrical impedance analysis works by sending electrical signals to measure the reactance and resistance of one’s body tissues, hence providing a measurement of water weight, fat, muscle mass, and visceral fat. The Body Smart also has the capability to measure one’s Basal Metabolic Rate, the number of calories a person burns in a resting state. Withings also added an ‘Eyes Closed Mode’ to this scale, which can hide weight on the screen and offer encouraging messages or daily information like air quality, steps count, and weather in its place. When this mode is activated, the data is still added to the Withings app for later retrieval. Additionally, the Body Smart can accommodate up to 8 users as well as built-in modes ranging from athletic to baby.

Withings is a digital health company committed to helping everyone live a healthier and happier life. They have designed a connected health ecosystem, aiming to provide seamless user experiences. Withings considers the technology to be responsible and reliable, and they put a heavy emphasis on data security and client privacy. For less intensive analyzing, the company also sells the Body Composition at $200 and the Body Scan for $300.

Fred Potter, Founder and CEO of Withings, led the combined team at Withings and Nokia to develop cutting-edge, connected products of superior design and quality, in an effort to make health tracking accessible and affordable for everyone.
