Netflix has dropped a new teaser trailer for its highly anticipated Terminator anime series, Terminator Zero. The trailer gives viewers a glimpse of the anime’s dark and stylized take on the iconic Terminator franchise, set to the haunting sound of The Smashing Pumpkins’ Disarm.
The anime showcases familiar Terminator elements transformed into stunning anime visuals, including Skynet’s devastating nuclear fallout, a Terminator masquerading as a police officer, and a futuristic ally fighting to prevent the apocalypse. However, instead of the classic T-1000 and Sarah Connor, Terminator Zero features a new dynamic duo – a rifle-wielding automaton facing off against a resistance fighter inspired by Ghost in the Shell’s Makoto Kusanagi.
Terminator Zero’s storyline unfolds in two time periods – the beginning of Skynet’s uprising in 1997 and the ongoing battle against humanity in 2022. The show follows scientist Malcolm Lee as he races to launch a revolutionary A.I. system to combat Skynet’s impending onslaught. Like Kyle Reese from the original Terminator film, a character named Eiko is sent back in time to protect Malcolm and his children from time-traveling assassins, including the titular Terminator.
With all eight episodes set to premiere on Netflix on August 29, fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of this groundbreaking anime series. Co-produced by Skydance and Production I.G., the studio behind renowned sci-fi anime like Ghost in the Shell Arise and Psycho-Pass, Terminator Zero promises to deliver a thrilling and visually stunning addition to the Terminator universe.
Led by showrunner Matt Tomlin, known for his work on The Batman, Terminator Zero boasts an impressive cast and a captivating narrative that is sure to captivate audiences. Stay tuned as this eagerly awaited anime series brings a fresh and exciting perspective to the iconic Terminator franchise.
