Net Zero Emissions by 2050: The Need for Enhanced Descalation by Developed Nations – Bhupender Yadav

Date:

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav recently addressed a plenary session at G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment in Sapporo, Japan, where he spoke in support of the global goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050. According to Minister Yadav, reaching this goal requires enhanced descaling of emissions by developed countries as they provide the necessary space and defence against climate change, pollution and environmental degradation.

The Minister further emphasized the importance of the IPCC AR 6 Report, which states that CO2 is the primary contributer of Green House Gases and needs to be reduced drastically for achieving the global temperature. He noted that the advent of industrialization has led to massive exploitation of natural resources and a dramatic shift in the climate balance, putting the existence of the planet at serious risk. He believes that collective action needs to be taken, guided by the Rio Conventions principles, to combat the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation.

For this, the Minister believes that developed countries should provide the Financial and Technical means of implementation for the developing countries to reach their desired developments, and defend themselves from climate change. Additionally, the Minister also suggested that governments across the world should make climate change a participative process for individuals.
