AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT have been creating apprehensions as they are capable of carrying out tasks such as essay writing and coding. However, according to N. R Narayana Murthy, the former CEO of software giant Infosys, they are not a match for the human mind.
Murthy had been the Chief Executive Officer of Infosys from 1981 to 2002 and even inspired tech companies such as Alibaba and Baidu to launch their own versions. In an interview with CNBC, Murthy explained that ChatGPT is great for generating knowledge for producing certain outputs, like writing an essay, but it cannot completely replace humans. He also gave an example of a competition between him and the journalist he was talking to, where he claimed that he could use ChatGPT as a base and then add his own skills.
Furthermore, the head of Infosys said that lazy people will all get Cs, but smart people have the human mind and creativity to get As. He believes that, although ChatGPT can be used as a helpful assistant in achieving better quality of work, it is not adequate enough to completely replace humans.
Infosys is a tech giant, and one of the world’s most valuable IT services brands. It was the first Indian company to be listed on the Nasdaq in 1999, and it was later listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2012. The current brand value of the company is $13 billion.
Narayana Murthy is a major figure in the world of software engineering and the founding member of Infosys. He is a staunch believer that the human mind is the most powerful imagination, and it is this kind of thinking which sets us apart from the artificial intelligence of machines like ChatGPT.
