Nurses are being called upon to make a commitment to ensuring quality healthcare delivery in Nagaland. The National Health Mission (NHM), Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoHFW), in collaboration with the Jhpiego-Nagaland Team, organized a five-day training session for staff nurses from various districts. This training focused on expanded packages of services under Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) for nurses posted at Ayushman Bharat-Health & Wellness Center-PHC.
Dr. Akuo Sorhie, the Mission Director at National Health, emphasized the importance of transforming the public healthcare delivery system in Nagaland by providing quality health care services to citizens. The training aimed to equip nurses with the necessary skills to deliver Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) services, including preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative services.
Dr. Mereninla Senlem, State Program Officer at NHM, highlighted the significance of CPHC in reducing out-of-pocket expenses and bringing healthcare closer to the people. With the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases in India, incorporating services for such conditions in Health and Wellness Centers is crucial.
Furthermore, Dr. R Chubala Aier, Additional Director & SPO of National Vector Borne Disease Control Program, emphasized the importance of working towards preventing vector-borne diseases, especially with the goal of malaria elimination by 2030. Dr. Vizokholo Theyo, State Program Officer for National TB Elimination Program & Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Program, discussed the initiatives in place to eliminate TB by 2025.
During the five-day training, staff nurses were educated on 12 expanded packages of services, covering a range of healthcare areas such as maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases, emergency medical services, mental health, and more. This training not only enhances the skills of nurses but also contributes to their Continuing Nursing Education.
In conclusion, the training program aims to empower nurses to deliver quality healthcare services to the people of Nagaland effectively. By enhancing their skills and knowledge, nurses play a vital role in transforming the public health care delivery system and ensuring the well-being of citizens.
