Recently, Chinese Nobel Prize winner Mo Yan surprised the audience by revealing that he used ChatGPT, an Artificial Intelligence-driven technology, to help write his speech for author Yu Hua at a celebration for Shouhuo magazine’s 65th anniversary. The video clip of his speech went viral on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site.
At the event held in Shanghai Dance Centre, Mo Yan presented an award to author Yu Hua and spoke of Hua’s “extraordinary” qualities. However, he said he was unable to write a suitable speech for the recognition despite trying for several days. He divulged that he approached a doctoral student and asked for help to write the speech using AI ChatGPT.
Mo Yan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012 and has been recognized for his work combining folk tales, history and contemporary realism in his literature. His popular works include ‘Red Sorghum’, ‘The Garlic Ballads’ and ‘Sandalwood Death’.
