Millennials and Gen Zers are highly concerned about the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in their jobs. According to a recent survey by KPMG of 1,035 US adults, 48% of millennials and 44% of Gen Zers are extremely or very concerned about the influence of AI on their careers, while Gen Xers and Boomers are less worried. The KPMG Talent Survey suggests younger generations are concerned due to being early adopters of technology and never having known a point where they didn’t have it, unlike older generations. However, this concern is seen as an opportunity to train individuals on using Gen AI responsibly and productively. The lack of guardrails to develop AI safely is worrying, and firms such as PwC and KPMG are rolling out training programs to help demystify the impact of Gen AI on jobs. While AI is expected to boost productivity, it could disproportionately affect middle-class white-collar workers who are in mid-career, mid-ability, and mid-level. Of those surveyed, half are said to be considering a job switch to reduce exposure to new and emerging technologies. Nevertheless, KPMG’s Sandy Torchia, Vice Chair of Talent and Culture, is taking a positive stance, aspiring to train people on responsible use of Gen AI to enhance efficiency and effectiveness at work.
