Microsoft Outlook to Receive AI Upgrade, Potentially Replacing Mail and Calendar Apps

Microsoft is set to introduce more artificial intelligence (AI) features to its popular mailbox app, Outlook. The Mail and Calendar apps will be merged into an updated version of Outlook for Windows, eliminating the need for the respective apps. Windows 11 devices shipped next year will include the app as the default mailbox app. The update presents an opportunity for Microsoft to incorporate AI technology, which never hurts in streamlining daily tasks. However, a tweet from a systems engineer and Office 365 specialist, Michael Reiners, suggests that Microsoft may be reconsidering the plan’s timing. Although the Mail and Calendar apps will still be available to download through Microsoft Store until the end of 2024, this decision has not delighted users who have voiced their concerns online.
