In a recent report from Bloomberg, it has been revealed that Microsoft intends to cut-off rival AI chatbots from accessing data from its search engine Bing. The news comes as the AI chatbot race is heating up, with tech giants from around the world competing to offer the best and most up to date AI service.
Microsoft has warned two separate Bing-powered search engines to cease using data from Bing, if they want to avoid being cut off. Various advanced search engines rely on Bing, these include DuckDuckGo, Yahoo and You.com. While Microsoft allows its users to use Bing’s search data in a myriad of ways, the company has drawn the line at the use this data to feed AI chatbots.
The recent surge in AI technology has lead to the introduction of many AI chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Bard, and Microsoft’s own Bing Chat. Microsoft did not specify which companies received their warnings, however it is known that both DuckDuckGo, You.com, and Neeva have each released their own version of AI products.
With a need to stay ahead of the competition, it is unsurprising that Microsoft is looking to limit other companies access to Bing’s data. The most significant of examples of this is the AI generated image capabilities Bing has recently released.
