Microsoft and OpenAI Launch $2M Fund to Fight Election Deepfakes and Promote AI Education

Date:

Microsoft and OpenAI have joined forces to combat the growing threat of election deepfakes, investing nearly $2 million in countermeasures. As countries around the world gear up for presidential elections involving 2 billion voters, the technology giants are taking proactive steps to ensure the integrity of the democratic process.

The creation of the Societal Resilience Fund marks Microsoft and OpenAI’s commitment to promoting AI education among voters globally. This fund will support non-governmental organizations dedicated to technology education and the fight against deceptive AI content.

In addition to financial support, the partners will focus on training programs, educational campaigns, and the development of frameworks for responsible AI development. One such partner, the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), is launching an educational campaign to clarify digital disclosure methods and best practices for AI-generated content.

Microsoft has also introduced Content Credentials, a system that allows users to digitally watermark AI content to provide transparency on its origins and editing history. This initiative aims to create a permanent record and context for AI-generated content, addressing concerns about the potential misuse of technology.

With the rapid advancement of AI technology, ensuring the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence is paramount. By working together to enhance AI literacy and education, Microsoft and OpenAI are taking proactive steps to safeguard the democratic process and protect against the spread of misinformation.
