Facebook’s parent company, Meta, is reportedly working on integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its flagship products, including Facebook and Instagram. In an all-hands company meeting held on Thursday, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, disclosed the proposal. Meta is planning to add AI text, image, and video generators to boost its offerings. A New York Times article reported that the employees were shown the preview of their new products, which includes ChatGPT-inspired chatbots for Messenger and WhatsApp, capable of holding conversations with distinct personalities. The co-founders of the company, along with the CTO, Andrew Bosworth, and CPO, Chris Cox, shared significant updates in the meeting. Zuckerberg presented various AI technologies in different developmental stages, with some intended for internal use, but most were designed for consumer use. Meta plans to enable users to leverage a text command to edit their pictures and share them through Instagram Stories. Another development includes integrating AI agents with varying traits and features to provide assistance or amusement. The latter is presently targeted at Messenger and WhatsApp. In July, the company plans to organize an in-house hackathon focusing on generative AI. Zuckerberg has recommended disseminating research findings and collaborating on AI technologies with the open-source community. Meta reorganized its AI initiatives in February to increase the implementation of technology into its products. In contrast, other companies have taken an aggressive approach to incorporating generative AI tools into their products, such as Microsoft including AI in all its superior products like Office, Windows, and Bing. Snapchat, a direct competitor of Meta, launched its Snap AI chatbot.
