Meta, the technology conglomerate formerly known as Facebook, has announced the opening of its new campus in Dublin, Ireland. This move is set to create over 2,000 jobs and solidify Meta’s presence in the country. The company’s operations in Ireland have been critical to its global success, with over 80 teams currently based there.
The new campus, located in the bustling neighborhood of Ballsbridge, will serve as Meta’s International Headquarters. In addition to this central hub, Meta also has sites in Meath, where its data center is located, and Cork, home to its reality labs. The expansion of Meta’s presence in Ireland underscores the country’s importance in the company’s growth strategy.
Simon Coveney, the Minister for Enterprise, expressed his enthusiasm for Meta’s continued investment in Ireland. He commended the company’s long-term commitment to the country, noting that Meta has been present in Ireland for almost 14 years. Despite the challenges faced by the tech industry, Meta’s presence has steadily grown, offering employment opportunities to thousands of people.
Anne O’Leary, Head of Meta Ireland, shared her excitement about this new chapter for the company. She reflected on Meta’s humble beginnings in Ireland in 2009, when it initially started with just 25 employees. Today, Meta boasts over 2,000 employees from 110 different nationalities across its various locations in Ireland. O’Leary highlighted the inclusivity and diversity of the new campus, which is designed to foster a vibrant culture of collaboration and innovation.
The opening of the Dublin Ballsbridge Campus aligns with Meta’s recent product launches. Just this month, the company unveiled the Quest 3, its first mass-market mixed reality headset, and the next generation of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. These cutting-edge technologies demonstrate Meta’s commitment to advancing the realms of artificial intelligence and immersive experiences.
Meta’s financial results for the third quarter of 2023 were also released, revealing a total revenue of $34.1 billion (€32 billion), a remarkable 23% increase compared to the previous year. These strong financials, coupled with the expansion of its operations in Ireland, position Meta for further growth and success.
With Meta’s new Dublin campus and thriving presence in Ireland, the company is poised to continue pushing the boundaries of technology and shaping the future of AI and immersive technologies. As Meta continues to invest in Ireland, it solidifies the country’s status as a crucial player in the global tech industry.
