Mercedes is expanding its voice control system with the help of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence tool, through a partnership with Microsoft. The endeavour aims to usher in voice-assisted navigation to keep customers’ focus on the road and hands on the wheel, and boost existing functions by enabling a wider range of topics to which the system can respond. Markus Schäfer, Mercedes’ chief technology officer, explains that the integration of ChatGPT is a milestone on the roadmap to making cars the hub of customers’ digital lives. US-based Mercedes owners can sign up for the in-vehicle beta program through their Mercedes me app or by speaking to their vehicle’s MBUX voice assistant.
