Mark Cuban, entrepreneur and investor, has made a statement about the artificial intelligence (AI) company that entrepreneur Elon Musk created. Cuban believes that Musk’s endeavor, X AI, could have a potential to create a clone of Musk himself, ‘a virtual Elon.’ Cuban has expressed that this could be both ‘cool’ and ‘scary.’
Musk’s plan for X AI was unveiled this year and was first reported by Kali Hays in Insider. It is an attempted response to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Cuban tweeted his thoughts on the matter, saying that the AI arms race will depend on which companies own the most data. He believes that since Musk now owns Twitter, he has access to its ‘firehose’ which he can use to train and supply an open-source model to compete with bigger companies.
As OpenAI is a well-known AI company and was co-founded by Musk himself, the entrepreneur has recently made some disparaging remarks about it. Therefore, Musk is not going to be collaborating with OpenAI for X AI.
In response to Cuban’s tweet, Musk did not comment, but Cuban said that he believes it will be ‘interesting’ to see how Musk maintains the venture. Cuban also said that anyone can create a virtual version of themselves if they access open-source language models and feast their own data. He added that Twitter has a different edge due to all its tweets, which he believes will be a ‘powerful utility.’
On the other hand, Cuban has a rather wary view of AI overall. He tweeted that it allows ‘dangerous people’ to become smart and that there could be ‘unintended consequences.’
All in all, it remains to be seen what will come out of Musk’s venture with X AI and whether or not it will be successful. Nevertheless, Musk is undoubtedly an influential figure in the AI industry. His technological advancements and investments in the field have made a considerable impact on the world of AI. Furthermore, his Twitter purchase could prove invaluable to his venture. only time will tell.
