Mark Cuban, billionaire entrepreneur and TV personality, recently discussed the potential of artificially intelligent (AI) chatbots like Open AI’s ChatGPT. According to the tech mogul, the impact of this technology is “beyond anything [he’s] ever seen in tech”. To explain his point, Cuban compared this technological advancement to HTML – the coding language used for early websites in the 90s. ‘Any kid who learned HTML and built a website for a business was considered a tech genius’, Cuban commented in a tweet.
UBS reported that ChatGPT achieved 100 million monthly active users within two months of its launch, making it the fastest-growing consumer application in history. This has caused many tech companies to pay close attention to AI chatbot technology and consider how to use this new innovation. Cuban suggested that the technology won’t take long to grow in popularity and ‘It will go from being perceived as difficult, to being recognized as being fundamental and used by everyone’, he tweeted.
The tech mogul went on to explain that companies need to be conscious of obtaining the right data and intellectual property for their AI chatbot. Owners of this kind of data or IP will want ‘to get paid’, Cuban said, as companies require a larger langue model (LLM) to get access to a variety of inputs. This could slow down the progress of AI technology and it’s important to recognize the ‘financial impossibility’ of covering every base, Cuban stated.
