Md Zakir Hussain, a Village Defence Force (VDF) member, had brought a case to the court challenging his sudden dismissal by the police authorities over an incident where a suspect escaped police custody while he was on duty.
Justice A Guneshwar Sharma, presiding as a single bench, pointed out that the petitioner was let go from the VDF without a fair hearing or proper inquiry into the matter. Despite the court instructing the government counsel to provide details on the procedures involved in dismissing VDF personnel, the subsequent affidavit failed to address this key issue.
