Malaysia’s Move Towards AI Integration in 2024
Malaysia is gearing up to embrace the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI) with the launch of the Malaysia Artificial Intelligence Nexus 2024 program. This initiative signals the country’s strategic move towards leveraging AI to drive innovation and economic growth.
A key component of the program is the establishment of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). By bringing together key industry players, policymakers, and academics, Malaysia aims to position itself as a leader in AI technology in Southeast Asia.
During a recent event, speakers delved into the importance of implementing robust regulations for AI, potential risks associated with the technology, and the economic benefits of widespread AI adoption. MOHE lead executive Zambry Abd Kadir emphasized the significance of AI across various sectors including education, agriculture, social systems, and the digital economy.
To further enhance public understanding and cultivate a skilled workforce in AI, Malaysia rolled out an online self-learning program and unveiled an AI Talent Roadmap aimed at enhancing the talent pool by 2030. Additionally, the country established the Malaysia-Artificial Intelligence Consortium (MAIC) to facilitate collaboration among industry stakeholders.
In parallel, Malaysia has joined forces with China to explore blockchain-based applications in payments and initiate joint research projects. These partnerships are expected to drive breakthroughs in efficiency and security in cross-border trade.
As Malaysia charts its course towards AI integration, the country recognizes the importance of combining AI with enterprise blockchain systems to ensure data quality, ownership, and security. This strategic approach will lay the foundation for a robust AI ecosystem that thrives within the bounds of the law and technological advancements.
By embracing emerging technologies like AI and blockchain, Malaysia is poised to unlock new opportunities, drive innovation, and strengthen its position as a hub for technological advancements in the region.
