In the modern digital world, the growth of a nation depends majorly on technological advancements which help in efficient governance, communication and business operations. To achieve its mission of ‘Digital India’, the Indian government has been continuously rolling out apps that cater to streamlining various services with the aim to enhance development and growth across all sectors of the economy.
The program was launched on July 1, 2015 with the main focus areas being digital infrastructure, offering citizens digital empowerment and providing government and services on demand. Since then, numerous initiatives have been undertaken to efficiently pave the way towards a digitally empowered nation.
Some of the major applications launched by the Indian government for growth and digitisation of the nation are the Start Up India, MyGov, UMANG, Swachhata-MOHUA, Aarogya Setu, BHIM, e-NAM, Mausam, Ayushman Bharat and e-Pathshala. For instance, Start Up India offers business startups a broad set of services from resources to free tools for growth and MyGov was created for citizens to actively participate in the nation’s governance and development. Additionally, UMANG is a platform for government services, such as filing taxes and booking doctors appointments, Swachhata-MOHUA is an app which allows citizens to report any civic-related issues and Aarogya Setu is an application to offer access to essential health services. Similarly, BHIM offers e-payment services directly through banks, e-NAM is a pan-India electronic trading site to benefit farmers and traders, Mausam is an app with access to weather forecasts, Ayushman Bharat is a flagship initiative to cover over 10 crores vulnerable households and e-Pathshala provides e-resources to students.
These applications have been of major help in the digitization and online availability of resources for the benefit of citizens of the nation. One of the key players in this digital revolution, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made major contributions through its applications and in setting standards for e-payments in India. NPCI was launched in 2009 by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to provide payment solutions and enhance the efficiency of the overall payment system. It is staffed by a large number of talented professionals who work to make the vision of ‘Digital India’ a reality.
With the available apps and the launch of more applications in the coming years, the Indian government is keen to keep up its mission to ensure nationwide growth and development. The hard work and dedication of these professionals have reaffirmed the government’s resolve to keep India as a contemporary and digitally empowered nation.
