Machine Learning Professionals in High Demand in the Booming AI Sector
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming industries, and machine learning (ML) professionals are at the forefront of this revolution. According to recent data, ML is the most sought-after skill in the AI job market, surpassing data science and Python. With over 2,000 job listings in the past year alone, the demand for ML experts continues to grow.
India, in particular, has experienced a significant increase in AI job opportunities, with approximately 3,000 active positions available. The number of AI professionals has also surged by an impressive 125 percent over the past year. The skilled workforce proficient in Python, a key language for AI applications, has doubled to over 224,000. Meanwhile, ML professionals have increased by 90 percent to reach 220,000.
Among various AI job roles, ML engineers hold the top spot, accounting for 23 percent of the job postings. AI scientists and data engineers follow closely behind, comprising 15 percent and 11 percent of the listings, respectively.
It is essential to exercise caution when interpreting these figures, as professionals with ML and other AI-related skills may not exclusively work in AI-specific roles. For instance, out of the 2.4 million Python professionals, only 10 percent are currently engaged in AI-related work.
Companies across diverse sectors are actively seeking AI talent to leverage the advantages of this cutting-edge technology. SAP Labs India, Samsung’s HARMAN Digital Transformation Solutions, Tredence, and Compunnel are among the companies actively recruiting AI experts. Tredence, in particular, places significant emphasis on professionals with expertise in AI/ML and cloud data platforms.
Despite the abundance of skilled professionals, there remains a shortage of mid- to senior-level experience in the AI domain. While the industry welcomes many newcomers, the demand lies in experienced talent with 10 to 30 years of relevant experience.
Looking ahead, the AI job market is expected to witness substantial growth across various industries, including banking, healthcare, retail, and manufacturing. AI will play a vital role in these sectors, fostering innovation and driving competitive advantage.
In conclusion, the AI sector is booming, and machine learning professionals are in high demand. The job market is particularly thriving in India, where the number of AI job opportunities has seen a significant rise. However, there is still a shortage of experienced professionals in the mid- to senior-level positions. As AI continues to permeate various industries, the need for skilled ML experts will only continue to grow.
