An innovative teacher is utilizing cutting-edge AI technology to help teach Shakespeare to students at Solihull School. Dr Stuart Hart is hoping this latest AI technology- known as ChatGPT- will explore new ways to help the lower sixth-formers gain a better understanding of the works of Shakespeare. What makes this method so unique is that ChatGPT is programmed to respond to instruction prompts and provide a well-thought-out response.
Furthermore, the research conducted by Dr Hart has a direct tie-in with the Shakespeare Festival that Solihull School proposes to hold in the next academic year. The tuition fees for the private school ranges from £11,454 to £15,549 depending on student age.
Dr Hart recently led a seminar to the lower sixth-form students wherein he compared famous Shakespearean sonnets and modern ones composed using ChatGPT. The evidence of the seminar was clearly observable as ChatGPT managed to construct a classic Shakespearean sonnet within half a minute. Words chosen by ChatGPT perfectly encapsulate the implications of the research conducted, emboldening the idea to explore the use and capabilities of AI further in education.
With the help of Charles Fillingham as the Executive Head at Solihull School, the institution celebrated in 2019 with 1114 students enrolled in their educational program. When asked to comment on this recent developing, Mr Fillingham stated, “I could not be more pleased than to begin at Solihull School. This is one of the great schools of England with a well-deserved reputation for academic excellence and a strong community.”
Solihull School is pushing boundaries with the use of AI technology. AI capabilities are drastically being improved and could be the perfect tool to assist in providing a deep understanding of relevant topics. It will be immensely beneficial to take advantage of the many possibilities that AI presents and explore ways to effectively use its potential to its fullest.
