Lawyers Use AI Chatbot’s Fake Legal Research in Scandal.

Date:

Schwartz and Peter LoDuca used the groundbreaking program to support a case against Colombian airline Avianca for an injury incurred in 2019, but the chatbot suggested cases that did not exist and that involved airlines with fake names. Microsoft invested around $1bn in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, which has alarmed some experts who believe artificial intelligence could pose risks to society. The judge hearing the case has yet to decide on sanctions.
