With as many as thirty new laws on the horizon, the administration aims to address critical issues ranging from housing and energy to artificial intelligence (AI).
According to a report by the Guardian, the upcoming King’s speech is set to unveil an ambitious agenda encompassing various sectors. Spearheaded by Sir Keir Starmer and his team, the legislative program will cover key areas such as devolution, housebuilding, crime, transport, AI, and green energy.
Among the proposed bills are significant measures like automatic voter registration, lowering the voting age to 16, and initiatives to stimulate housebuilding. Additionally, plans include a take back control bill that delegates powers over energy, transport, skills, and planning to local councils and mayors.
The comprehensive package also includes provisions to reinstate bus routes, regulate affordable transport fares, nationalize the railways, combat antisocial behavior and drug trafficking, and intensify oversight on artificial intelligence. Furthermore, there are plans to introduce laws prohibiting the creation of sexually explicit deepfake images, phasing out smoking, establishing an independent football regulator, and promoting racial equality in the workplace.
In response to past tragedies like the Ariana Grande attack in Manchester and the Hillsborough disaster, the government is set to introduce measures such as Martyn’s Law and the Hillsborough Law to enhance safety and security protocols. These initiatives mark a crucial step towards fortifying the legal framework and addressing societal challenges head-on.
