The National Intelligence Service (NIS) in South Korea is producing guidelines for how to use ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots. The move comes amid growing concerns about AI-generated “fake news” and the leaking of personal or work-related information. The NIS guidelines will be published later this month and are aimed at government departments and agencies. The agency began the initiative in April, working with academic experts to develop the security measures which it said would continue to be updated in order to protect against those who might use AI for malicious purposes. Russia, China and Cuba have already banned the use of ChatGPT, while Italy lifted a similar ban on the chatbot’s use in March following regulatory changes implemented by OpenAI, the company behind the technology.
