Currently the program is still in development, but already the internet has seen a flurry of curious users testing it out on tasks ranging from research to carrying out digital fingerprints and generating code. An Auto-GPT user even asked the application to ‘reimagine the future of health and medicine’, to which Auto-GPT provided a compelling response.
Though Auto-GPT certainly seems to embody the latest and greatest in today’s artificial intelligence technology, the answer to whether it can truly be considered an AI is still a debated one. Though it is in the realm of artificial general intelligence–which would allow it to handle unfamiliar tasks–the application is still considered an experiment and is yet to be recognised as a full-fledged AI.
Auto-GPT is free and open-source, but can be a bit complicated to install. One needs to use both an OpenAI API key and a PINECONE API key, as well as an ElevenLabs Key. As the application is still in the experimental stage, some users may be better served by opting for simple and familiar ChatGPT bots instead.
