Daiwa is empowering its workforce with AI, training staff to become experts in the field, according to Seiji Nakata, a senior executive at the company. Science, technology, engineering, and maths degree holders account for 21% of new college graduates hired by Daiwa this year and this is expected to increase to 50% in the future. Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan Chase are also leveraging AI in financial operations. Interest in AI is growing in Japan with Softbank Group’s mobile unit proposing to build a version of ChatGPT and MUFG preparing to enable employees to use the chatbot for daily work.
