Jack Dorsey Not Awarded Twitter’s Blue Tick, Launches His Rival Twitter Platform Bluesky for Android Users

Date:

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, recently lost his blue tick and has subsequently launched his own micro-blogging platform, Bluesky, to Android users. The app was first launched to iOS users back in February, in a closed beta. With the new, Bluesky provides a host of features and tools for their users, such as tracking likes and bookmarks, editing tweets, quote-tweeting, DMs, hashtag use and more. The app was examined by the app intelligence firm data.ai, who revealed that Bluesky had seen 240,000 lifetime installs of their iOS app, a rise of 39% since March.

The unique user experience offered by Bluesky is given by its simple user interface, where users can post content of up to 256 characters, including photos. It also allows users to mute and block accounts, though more advanced features such as creating lists are still unavailable. On Bluesky, users can discover new content by navigating to the ‘Discover’ tab, which gives users ‘Who to Follow’ recommendations and news content. It also has a ‘Notifications’ tab, which allows users to track interactions with their followers such as likes, retweets, follows and replies, though there is no feature for direct messaging.

Bluesky originated from Twitter in 2019, and was then established in 2022 as an independent company specializing in research and development in building a decentralised social network. Dorsey spoke about his vision of Bluesky as an ‘open decentralised standard for social media’; the platform last year secured $13 million in funding, with Dorsey as a Board member.

The company, Bluesky, is a decentralized social networking and communication platform where any user can create their own timeline. There are no advertisers or algorithms, and users can customize their feed and notifications. It supports dynamic posts with up to 256 characters and images, as well as several other useful features such as quote-tweeting, DMs, hashtag use, and more. The platform also supports enhanced curation in a way not available with Twitter, allowing you to follow who you want and have an uncluttered timeline.

The person behind Bluesky is Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and CEO of Twitter. After stepping away from Twitter in 2019, Dorsey chose to bring his vision of an open decentralized platform to life, establishing Bluesky in 2022 with the help of a $13 million funding. Dorsey himself is a board member at Bluesky, and continues to work on its further development and success.
