Jabil, a leading manufacturing solutions provider, has announced the expansion of its manufacturing capacity in Mexico, signaling a boost in accessibility to robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. With the addition of its third plant in Chihuahua, the company now offers customers access to over one million square feet of regional production capacity.
The new manufacturing facility not only enhances Jabil’s operational efficiency and flexibility but also opens up increased nearshoring opportunities for customers. Additionally, it provides greater access to robotics and process automation, AI, and additive manufacturing, enabling customers to accelerate their time to market and scale their solutions.
We have been at the forefront of the retail industry for the past two decades, collaborating with valued customers to develop and deliver advanced digital commerce solutions, said Rafael Renno, Senior Vice President of Global Business Units at Jabil. From warehouse automation to in-store digitalization, our investments in this industry have empowered customers to drive innovation and enhance their offerings.
One of the companies benefiting from Jabil’s expanded capabilities is Ocado Group, a software and robotics platform company. Jabil is scaling up its additive manufacturing and production of Ocado’s Series 600 robot, a lightweight and efficient fulfillment robot that revolutionizes Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) for grocery and non-grocery applications. Leveraging its range of additive manufacturing capabilities, Jabil has supported Ocado in rapidly iterating the design of the Series 600 robot over the past two years.
Jabil’s increased manufacturing capacity in Mexico has played a crucial role in the commercialization of Ocado’s cutting-edge robot. With around 300 3D-printed parts, the robot’s weight has been reduced by two-thirds, allowing for more creative and unique part geometries. We are benefiting from Jabil’s expertise in additive manufacturing and materials science to scale up volume manufacturing of our innovative robots, said Paul Turner, Chief Operating Officer at Ocado.
Another division of Jabil, Badger Technologies, which specializes in retail robotics, is also taking advantage of the expanded manufacturing capacity in Mexico. This expansion allows Badger Technologies to increase production volumes while simultaneously reducing supply chain and logistics costs, especially for customers in North America.
With its commitment to innovation and manufacturing excellence, Jabil continues to drive advancements in robotics and AI accessibility. The company’s expansion in Mexico brings new opportunities for customers, enabling them to embrace the latest technological advancements and enhance their market presence.
As Jabil expands its manufacturing capacity and strengthens its partnership with companies like Ocado and Badger Technologies, the industry can expect further advancements in robotics, AI, and additive manufacturing. These developments will foster increased efficiency, automation, and scalability, ultimately benefiting businesses and consumers alike.
