Asus is making waves in the gaming PC market with their latest release, the Asus NUC 14 Pro. This compact gaming PC is equipped with Intel Core Ultra processors and Intel Arc graphics, promising a powerful gaming experience in a small package.
The new Asus NUC 14 Pro is a 4×4 mini PC that supports up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H Meteor Lake processor, while the NUC 14 Pro+ boasts support for a Core Ultra 9 185H chip. These mini PCs follow a design language similar to Intel’s, cramming the performance of a gaming laptop into a compact form factor. Despite their size, they offer more full-sized ports and storage options compared to slim laptops.
Under the hood, the NUC 14 Pro series features 14th-gen Intel Core mobile chips based on the Meteor Lake architecture. This brings some notable changes, including Intel Arc integrated graphics, providing up to 2 times the GPU performance of previous-gen chips. Additionally, all models come with an Intel AI Boost neural processing unit for hardware-accelerated AI features.
Asus has also ensured that these mini PCs can handle demanding tasks by supporting up to 96 GB of DDR5-5600 memory. They feature a range of ports, including a 2.5 GbE Ethernet jack powered by an Intel i226V controller.
It’s worth noting that while most models come with Meteor Lake chips, entry-level configurations will have an Intel Core 3 100U processor from Intel’s new Core Mobile Series 1 line. These use the Raptor Lake Refresh architecture and lack an NPU, instead featuring Intel UHD graphics.
The NUC 14 Pro+ stands out with its all-metal chassis and silver color, distinguishing it from the standard black NUC models. It also comes with an updated cooling system, including triple 6mm heat pipes and improved ventilation.
Asus has designed both the NUC 14 Pro and Pro+ to be easily opened without any tools. By simply twisting a locking dial and sliding latches, users can remove the bottom cover to replace or upgrade the M.2 2280 SSD. However, accessing the DDR5 and M.2 2242 connectors requires removing the motherboard.
Asus intends to offer the NUC Pro and Pro+ as both mini PC and kit models. The only discernible difference is that the mini PC comes with either Windows 11 Home or Pro, while the kits also provide a w/o OS option for those who prefer a barebones setup without memory or storage.
With the introduction of the Asus NUC 14 Pro series, gamers can expect a compact gaming PC that offers impressive performance, expandability, and customization options. These mini PCs are set to make an impact in the gaming community, providing an alternative to traditional gaming laptops. Whether it’s for casual gaming or intense gameplay, Asus has delivered a powerful solution that’s sure to satisfy gamers around the world.
