OpenAI’s ChatGPT app for Android is gearing up to introduce a new home screen widget known as Reports, aiming to enhance the accessibility and user experience of the application. This development comes amidst a flurry of major releases in the generative AI space, with Google unveiling Gemini 1.5 and reports hinting at Copilot’s integration as Android’s default assistant. Additionally, Krutrim, Bhavish Aggarwal‘s startup, has rolled out its platform in public beta.
Insider Mishaal Rahman shared insights on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that ChatGPT for Android now offers a home screen widget featuring shortcuts and a conversation mode for text, image, and voice queries. The widget is currently in the beta stage and is not yet available to the general public.
Rahman provided a sneak peek at the widget’s design through a shared screenshot, showcasing a 4×2 grid layout reminiscent of Google’s search widget but with added functionality. The widget includes a text field for queries, along with icons for entering an image, capturing an image, activating voice input mode, and selecting a verbal response.
One of the widget’s key advantages is its ability to enable users to launch quick queries without taking up the entire screen, allowing for multitasking while awaiting a response. In a recent update, OpenAI introduced a groundbreaking feature in ChatGPT by giving the AI long-term memory capabilities. Users can now instruct the AI assistant to remember settings such as essay length, writing style, workplace details, and more. This feature provides users with flexibility, allowing them to control memory settings and engage in ephemeral chats with no memory or history.
