Indian Companies Tread Carefully but Gain Momentum with ChatGPT

Date:

Indian businesses are walking the line between being public and cautious with artificial intelligence technology, despite the rise of ChatGPT. Companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro, HCL Tech and Tech Mahindra have waded into the rising pool of artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Tata is likely to create a center to research AGI, while Infosys is making efforts to develop platforms that specifically aid their clients’ business goals with the help of generative AI. Salil Parekh, CEO of Infosys, notes that the platform has employed open-source generative AI that assists with collaboration with clients, as well as their own internal usage and productivity.

The platform has increased focus on ChatGPT and its potential applications, which has prompted 45% of CEOs to raise AI investments. A Gartner survey found that 70% of executives are in a learning and exploratory place with generative AI, while 19% are in a pilot or production mode.

Analysts at Gartner claim that the fervour of generative AI shows no signs of stopping and many companies are deciding the amount to invest in this expanding technology and how to manage the risks. A vast majority of executives see the pros of AI outweighing the cons.

Flipick is a company offering an AI-driven immersive learning platform for higher education and corporate training, as well as CourseBOT, an AI-assisted course builder, and DocuBOT, both of which are aiding students to have a better experience. In addition to this, Reliance Jio’s subsidiary, Jio Haptik Technologies Limited is planning to implement ChatGPT AI and Generative AI to facilitate a more human-like conversation with their customers. The travel services provider MakeMyTrip is testing ChatGPT to improve customer travel experiences.

A Gartner report predicted that nearly 22% of Indian job market will see AI-related roles emerging in the next five years.

Growth in AI technology, as well as its diverse usage, is helping companies stay ahead in the digital industry. With the variety of applications AI can provide, it is important for Indian firms to be careful, but still take advantage of the many benefits that the technology can offer.
