India Job Hiring Trends – Non-Tech Industries to Employ Over 10 Lakh Tech Talent by 2027-28 (TeamLease Services Report)

Date:

With the digitalization of sectors, there is a greater need for a talent base to fuel digital and technological upskilling amongst businesses. In a report it has been revealed that by 2027-28, close to a million tech talent will be employed in non-tech industries such as Banking Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI), Consulting, Communications, Media and Technology (CMT), Retail and Consumer Business, Life Sciences and Healthcare, Engineering Research and Development, and Energy and Resources. The report, titled “Digital People Supply Chain Report – Tech in Non-Tech” was released by TeamLease Services.

Currently, the majority of tech hiring is done by BFSI and Consulting, who employ a whopping 2 and 1.85 lakh professionals respectively, followed by Engineering Research and Development (1.43 lakhs), Retail and Consumer Business (1.85 lakhs), Communications, Media and Technology (0.9 lakhs) and Energy and Resources (0.42 lakhs). The report projected that Retail and Consumer Business will witness the highest growth rate by 2027-28, with around 2.9 lakh professionals being employed.

While the business surge happens, data and analytics will power major decisions, calling for businesses to build tech enabled conceptions for optimised products and service experiences. “1 million tech professionals by FY 2027-28 is a testament to the growing stature of tech jobs in non-tech industries” said Sunil C, Chief Executive Officer, TeamLease Digital.

Yet the obstacles remain. Currently, only 54% engage in permanent workforce, with the rest engaging in contractual or mixed contract engagements. While Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Gurgaon remain the highest paid employment hubs in technology roles, experts in cloud-based services, robotic automation transformation and artificial intelligence are in demand. Interestingly, 1.8 million of the 5 million women are enrolled in STEM courses such as computer programming, web development and AI and ML amongst others.

Non-tech industries have now realised the imperative role technology plays in repositioning the industry and the importance of skilled professionals in creating their technological journey. Thus, there is a greater emphasis on the need for such companies to invest in upskilling their manpower and creating a skill-based talent management system. Creating a safe space for the tech-talent to innovate and “push the boundaries” can help optimise the digital ecosystem for non-tech sectors.
