US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and India’s Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had a virtual meeting on Monday (April 27) to discuss the mutual interests that the US and India share in terms of economic progress in the Indo-Pacific region. The US Department of Commerce issued a statement indicating that numerous discussions were held in order to achieve the final result which is scheduled to take place in the upcoming May round of negotiations in Singapore.
In her statement, Secretary Raimondo praised Minister Goyal and the Indian government for their valuable contributions and support in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) for prosperity. She also added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a very popular leader and also praised him for his commitment towards the people of India.
Recently, a reception was held by Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu at India House and Secretary Raimondo was present there. She described that meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a wonderful and incredible experience for her.
Gina Raimondo talked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and commitment towards the people of India and she added that Prime Minister Modi is a ‘tech-guy’, with insights on topics like radio access networks, artificial intelligence, etc.
The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) is a set of collective economic principles, practices, and activities that the United States and India partner on to increase shared prosperity and economic development in the Indo-Pacific region. This initiative will focus on developing close economic ties to increase economic access, investment, and cooperation, while simultaneously improving regional security and stability.
