A recent report has revealed that scams related to ChatGPT are on the rise and scammers are taking advantage of OpenAI’s free version of ChatGPT. Fraudulent chatbot apps are being created by scammers to lure victims in by claiming they must pay for these services.

According to research conducted by Palo Alto Networks Unit 42, it was found that there had been a 910 per cent growth in monthly registrations for domains related to ChatGPT from November 2022-April 2023. The report further added that more than 100 daily detections of ChatGPT-related malicious URLs were captured in their Advanced URL Filtering system. Additionally, it noted that there was a impressive 18,000 per cent surge in squatting domains from DNS security logs.
Scammers are using ChatGPT-related social engineering for identity theft or financial fraud. Fake ChatGPT sites try to gather victims’ confidential and personal information such as their credit card details and email address.
