In March 2023, OpenAI released the latest version of their AI-powered chatbot, GPT-4, addressed some of the major concerns people had with its predecessor, GPT-3.5. Users were primarily concerned with the potential misuse of the chatbot and its safety measurements. The company reported that in version 4, the model’s response rate for requests for disallowed content plummeted by 82 percent. Additionally, the pre-trained model also generated 89 percent less toxic language. The model was also found to adhere to company policies regarding sensitive requests such as medical advice or self-harm 29 percent more often.

He is an advocate of the principles of safety, transparency, and fairness while developing applications of deep learning and reinforcement.
