ChatGPT, OpenAI’s viral chatbot, has recently been the centre of discussion and debate since it launched in November. Recently, one lucky student has proven the potential of the chatbot, getting an incredible 94% on their exams, without having attended a single class.
The user, u/151N, uploaded their success story to Reddit, where they expressed their worry about upcoming exams due to an inability to attend classes. Feeling desperate, the student turned to ChatGPT for help. They copied their entire lecture transcripts and requested for ChatGPT to use its sophisticated algorithms to analyze the transcripts and pick out the information most relevant to their upcoming exams.
Unfortunately, the transcripts were too long for ChatGPT to process, so u/151N had to find an online paraphrasing tool to summarize the texts before ChatGPT could properly understand it. This only took 4-5 hours. The next day u/151N devoted 4-5 hours ensuring that the information provided by ChatGPT was accurate and corroborated with the textbook they were using.
Incredibly, the student took the exam the next day, and found that the exam questions were almost identical to what ChatGPT has prepared them for. u/151N could not believe their luck, resulting in an excellent score of 94.
In their post, u/151N does not think that ChatGPT should be seen any differently from a regular tutor. They stated, “I did not cheat, I studied for 72 hours with the guidance of AI on what to study and I succeeded. It’s no different than having a tutor.” This story speaks to the power of both AI technology as well as the ChatGPT itself.
