Improving ChatGPT Privacy with PrivateAI’s PrivateGPT

Date:

PrivateAI recently launched the latest privacy tool called PrivateGPT, designed to enable users to protect sensitive data and personally identifiable information (PII) while running OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This specially designed layer aims to battle issues related to data privacy associated with large language models.

PrivateGPT was developed to prevent the transmission and exposure of data by automatically redacting sensitive information before the user’s prompt is sent to ChatGPT. It replaces confidential information with placeholder data for ultimate user protection.

The improved data privacy and protection features of this new tool come in response to recent inquiries from the public, with Italy banning ChatGPT use due to privacy concerns and investigations being launched in Canada into OpenAI’s data protection practices due to facial recognition issues.

Patricia Thaine, cofounder and CEO of PrivateAI, commented on the news, “Generative AI will only have a space within our organizations and societies if the right tools exist to make it safe to use. ChatGPT is not excluded from data protection laws like the GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS, or the CPPA. By sharing personal information with third-party organizations, they lose control over how that data is stored and used, putting themselves at serious risk of compliance violations.”

The launch of PrivateGPT also adds competition to the market, with cloud security provider Cado Security recently announcing the release of Masked-AI, an open source tool designed to mask sensitive information sent to GPT-4. With two companies vying to provide users the best protection, the data protection landscape increasingly looks brighter.
