Impact of ChatGPT on IT Professionals’ Careers

Date:

With the rise in the use of AI chatbot, ChatGPT, and Generative AI gaining more attention, there is a much talked about question: How can ChatGPT affect IT employees’ jobs? Twitter is filled with countless debates from users expressing their opinions of ChatGPT’s effect on job roles.

Kunal Shah, CEO of fintech company CRED, further fueled the discussion when he asked the impact of AI/GPT on IT employees at Infosys, TCS, and Cognizant, to which he received a great deal of responses.

ChatGPT – Making Work Easier

The majority of those who responded positively noted that ChatGPT has improved their work efficiency and accuracy. Prateek Chachra expressed his satisfaction in using ChatGPT for code reviews, while Vineeth expressed his admiration of AI as a co-pilot to help him deliver quality products to his clients. Tapas mentioned that ChatGPT’s use had been endorsed by the top management of his IT company, while Infosys’s CEO Salil Parekh mentioned the use of generative AI for its clients and within the company.

On the other hand, some argued that there was yet to be any major effect of ChatGPT on IT employees. A person working at TCS said that this AI chatbot hasn’t changed the understanding and writing of codes, but rather the documentation and review process. Jaideep Singh Negi explained how ChatGPT has only helped make existing job roles easier.

In the Long-term

In the meanwhile, IT employees are of the opinion that while ChatGPT has already replaced certain laborious and mundane tasks, them being skilled workers gives them an edge over the AI chatbot. Rajat Kamatkar believes that generative AI dependent tools will soon be developed and integrated, whereas Rajat Upreti mentioned how vendors such as SAP, Salesforce, Adobe, etc., are yet to use AI for client requirements.
