IFlytek Unveils Rival to ChatGPT as China Prepares to Regulate AI

Date:

Chinese voice recognition company Iflytek Co. has recently made a big move in creating a rival to the OpenAI Inc’s ChatGPT. In the city of Hefei, their CEO Liu Qiangfeng showed off a demonstration of the new artificial intelligence model which is developed to be used for education and in enterprises. The impact of this Generative AI technology is considered to be of great importance and Liu Qiangfeng has also mentioned that they will do everything possible to learn from ChatGPT and even try to exceed its capabilities.

However, China has recently signaled its decision to conduct an oversight of the AI industry. China’s Politburo has fixed their attention on Generative Artificial Intelligence and has said that certain actions will be taken to mitigate risks. There have also been concerns about Chinese companies finding it difficult to acquire the high end chips needed for language models. Even though Iflytek was placed in the U.S. Commerce Department’s blacklist in 2019, Baidu Inc is still seen as a leading contender in the race to creating a ChatGPT rival by demonstrating its Ernie Bot in a prerecorded show back in March. Companies like Baidu and Alibaba have stated that they plan to incorporate AI into their products in the same manner as Microsoft and Google with their Edge and Search engines.

Iflytek Co. is a Chinese multicounty high-tech enterprise focusing on speech recognition, natural language processing and artificial intelligence. Their products and services are widely used in the consumer electronics, automobile, education, healthcare, finance and manufacturing industries. The company recently unveiled its new SparkDesk at an AI developer event in the city of Hefei. This AI model was voiced by the company’s CEO Liu Qiangfeng and demonstrated the ability to assess student essays and create stories using the power of natural language processing.
