Hyundai Elevator, LG Electronics, and KT have joined forces to revolutionize smart buildings with robotics and artificial intelligence (AI). In a bid to drive advancements in robotics applications and explore new business opportunities, the three companies have signed a memorandum of understanding.
The tripartite alliance aims to leverage the expertise of each company. Hyundai Elevator specializes in elevator systems, LG Electronics offers robotics technology, and KT provides AI-based communication technology. By blending these fields, the companies aim to introduce innovative solutions to the market.
This partnership opens up the possibility for various industries to benefit from the integration of robotics and AI in smart buildings. For instance, residential buildings could see the introduction of robotic couriers that deliver parcels via elevators, reducing human contact and theft risks. In hotels, robots could be deployed for room service and delivering meals or fresh linen to guests. Hospitals might also utilize robotics technology for medical supply transportation, enhancing hygiene and reducing human error.
To manage these services seamlessly, AI voice commands would be introduced, allowing intuitive control and management. Hyundai Elevator is already ahead in this regard, as they launched an open API platform in 2022 that enables connectivity between elevators, robots, and smart devices.
Several joint projects have already been implemented as part of their efforts, with locations like the Westin Josun Busan, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, and Shinhan Bank’s headquarters showcasing the successful integration of robotics and elevators. Hyundai Elevator aims to consolidate these efforts under one umbrella, creating more integrated and full-featured solutions.
Do Ik-han, vice president of the Service Business Division at Hyundai Elevator, emphasized the importance of connecting elevators with robots for future urban development globally. During the signing ceremony, they also discussed the potential of establishing an international standard for smart buildings that integrate elevators, robotics, and communication expertise.
Hyundai Elevator foresees a positive outlook for global expansion, stating that their integrated solutions could be exported for large-scale international projects such as the Neom City project in Saudi Arabia and Indonesia’s capital relocation.
