San Francisco-based startup Hyper has raised $3.6m in a seed funding round led by Two Sigma Ventures, with participation from Amazon’s Alexa Fund and MakersFund. Hyper, part of Y Combinator’s Winter ’21 cohort, has built technology that enables the development of anime-inspired avatars on iPhone and an accompanying app, while minimising the need for costly computer equipment, motion capture devices, camera gear and software development. Its latest feature is Hyper AI, which uses OpenAI’s GPT to develop AI-based characters that can appear alongside Vtuber avatars or act as chatbots. Hyper also plans to introduce avatar AI assistants.
