Humane’s AI Pin Promotional Video Exposed: Incorrect Information Goes Viral
Humane, a cutting-edge AI device manufacturer, is facing a public relations setback after its promotional video for the AI Pin went viral for all the wrong reasons. Astute viewers noticed that the device had provided incorrect information on two different occasions during the video, causing some embarrassment for the company. Humane has acknowledged the errors and plans to release a new promotional video to rectify the situation.
During the original video of the AI Pin’s launch, two instances of erroneous information were noted. First, when co-founder Imran Chaudhri asked the device about the best place to witness an upcoming solar eclipse, it replied that the next eclipse would occur in April 2024 and the ideal location to observe it would be Australia. However, this information was inaccurate, as the April 2024 eclipse will be visible in parts of North America, not Australia.
The second error occurred when Chaudhri inquired about the amount of protein in a handful of almonds. The AI Pin incorrectly stated that there were 15 grams of protein in a handful, but it was pointed out that this would require consuming about 60 almonds. In reality, one almond contains approximately 0.25 grams of protein, according to the USDA.
Sam Sheffer, Head of New Media at Humane, acknowledged these mistakes in the company’s Discord server. He explained that a bug had caused the AI Pin to provide the location for a previous eclipse, rather than the upcoming one in 2024. Regarding the almonds, Sheffer clarified that the AI Pin had mentioned the protein content of half a cup of almonds, rather than the smaller amount that Chaudhri had in his hand.
Sheffer assured users that these issues would be resolved before the AI Pin’s release in early 2024. He also stated that the problematic portions of the promotional video had been corrected and that an updated version would soon be available on Humane’s website, although no specific date was provided.
Insider reached out to Humane for comment but did not receive an immediate response. The company’s spokespersons may elaborate further on the matter in the future.
Despite these hiccups, Humane’s AI Pin remains an eagerly anticipated device. Priced at $699, the small gadget can be attached to clothing or bags and boasts features such as a camera, microphone, speaker, and a laser projector to display information on the user’s hand. It can take photos and videos, play music, make calls, and answer questions, showcasing its AI-focused capabilities.
