Human-Like AI-Driven Robots Could Become Sentient, Says Hanson Robotics CEO

Date:

Artificial intelligence-driven robotics is advancing towards a more human-like experience, according to David Hanson, CEO of Hanson Robotics. Speaking at the Global Business Summit in Delhi, Hanson highlighted the emergence of lifelike capabilities in AI, which were not possible until recently. He stated that machines becoming sentient is now a real possibility, and humanoid robots can serve as a bridge between AI and the human experience. Hanson Robotics has pioneered the development of human-like robots, including Sophia, the world’s first robot citizen. Hanson emphasized the importance of diversity in the field, noting that his team is comprised of 50% women, including individuals from various disciplines like engineering, AI science, design, art, and animation. By incorporating the humanities in their work, Hanson Robotics aims to humanize robot interfaces and enhance the understanding of what it means to be human. Hanson expressed his belief that humanistic AI leads to a better future by bringing out the best in people. He also announced the creation of the Global AI Alliance, a non-profit organization focused on uniting different communities to promote a global AI democracy. Hanson considers artificial general intelligence (AGI) as a significant development in diversifying AI, emphasizing the need for a global effort to ensure that AGI prioritizes humanity. Overall, Hanson envisions AI and robotics as tools for improving human life.
