Microsoft, the tech behemoth, has recently added Bing’s ChatGPT powered chatbot to their SwiftKey beta app for Android users. The virtual keyboard app is popular among mobile device owners who prefer its capability to learn the user’s writing style, making autocorrect more accurate and text predictions more effective.
Upon installing SwiftKey, users will find the Bing chatbot option above the keyboard where they can choose between three modes: conversation style chatbot, a built-in search function which lets users search by web post or image, and the Tone feature, which analyzes entered text and rewrites it in either professional, casual, polite, or social post tone. Nevertheless, there is a limit of three to 200 characters with Tone. Besides, it does not support swear words.
Although the integration has started to roll out to Android users, those on iOS will still have to wait as there is no confirmation yet if the chatbot will be available for the Apple devices. The company discontinued the support for SwiftKey on iOS back in October 2022 and then restored the service a month later. We still have to wait and see if the app will be updated with the ChatGPT powered chatbot on Apple devices as well.
Speaking of the company behind this initiative, Microsoft Corporation is a tech behemoth based in Redmond, Washington. Founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975, this company developed some of the most iconic pieces of technology, such as Windows PC operating system, Office suite, Xbox console and games, and the cloud service, Azure. In addition to that, Microsoft is also known for foraying in the artificial intelligence domain, with ChatGPT currently powering the Bing chatbot.
Pedram Rezaei, the CTO for the Mobile and Commerce Division of Microsoft, is the one who made the announcement of the Bing chatbot integration on Twitter. They also noted that the rollout is “slowly happening” to the SwiftKey beta app, so there are chances that some users may not have it yet.
All in all, the Bing chatbot integration on SwiftKey is promising and can help users save time while typing. It is designed to provide more accurate autocorrect, text predictions, conversation style chatbot and much more. We have to wait and watch what the future holds for this artificial intelligence powered chatbot in Microsoft’s platforms.
