How to Easily Use ChatGPT on Linux: Installing Bavarder

Date:

ChatGPT is a popular chatbot that is used to ask questions and make requests by typing into a web browser window. It is powered by OpenAI and fueled by the large language model which it learns from. Now, there is a new native desktop app released for Linux users that provides privacy-conscious users to utilise the power of ChatGPT without having to create an account. The app is named Bavarder and it runs on many popular Linux desktops.

Bavarder works with the OpenAI API and integrates with the language model of various providers like BAI Chat, CatGPT, OpenAI’s own GPT 3.5 Turbo, and more. Bavarder is designed specifically for GNOME, but is compatible with other desktop environments too. To install the app, it is available in a universal package format known as flatpak and can be downloaded from Flathub.

When the Bavarder app is opened, it is dead simple to use. There are two input fields located at the top and bottom of the app’s window. Users can type their query in the top field and Bavarder will deliver the response in the bottom. Bavarder also includes a copy button on each field that allows users to quickly send the text to a different place. Additionally, users can adjust the type or quality of their response by accessing the Preferences option in the hamburger menu.

Using Bavarder is a convenient and easy way to communicate with artificial intelligence without the need for creating an account. However, it’s important to note that it doesn’t necessarily generate the same results as ChatGPT. Moreover, there are ethical considerations when using ChatGPT such as the concerns of collecting data, the potential to replace jobs, and the matter of outsourcing thinking to machines.
