How FOMO is Influencing Elon Musk to Create a ChatGPT Replica

Date:

Elon Musk, the current Twitter owner and EV billionaire, wants to create a revolutionary new artificial intelligence (AI) called TruthGPT. Musk made the announcement during a Fox News interview with Tucker Carlson about the dangers of AI. According to Musk, TruthGPT seeks to understand the universe and is designed to prevent the annihilation of humanity. To make it happen, Musk has reportedly hired engineers from Google’s DeepMind.

OpenAI, a research lab and AI company co-founded by Musk, is often considered the competitor to TruthGPT. Musk has expressed his displeasure with the company’s products in the past, which he believes are too “woke.” This may be why Musk is attempting to create an alternative to OpenAI. In addition, it has been reported that Microsoft recently made a multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI, which could have opened an opportunity for Musk to make a similar large profit.

The announcement of TruthGPT reflects a strange fight in the AI world over large language models and chatbots. Even the those that fear these technologies are willing to develop them for the biggest possible profit. This is why Musk and Fox News are so intent to create AI when presented with the idea of its dangers.

The aforementioned Future of Life Institute published a letter calling for a “pause” in the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4. Signers of the letter, including Musk, believe that AI has the potential to cause civilizational destruction, but there is no clear indication of how this risk can be mitigated.

It appears that the fight over AI development is motivated by money, as Musk wants a piece of the profit that OpenAI has generated. While Musk’s plan for TruthGPT lacks detail, he does have the opportunity to make a substantial profit if he can create a viable, competitive product. Musk could also prove to be successful in competing with OpenAI due to his current public image and the attention he’ll receive from the media. The truth of the matter is, Musk is a savvy businessman who understands the opportunity that stands before him and has the talent to realize it.
