Highlights from TNW Conference 2023

TNW Conference 2023 has come to an end, leaving attendees with plenty of inspiration and knowledge to take away. With a focus on the theme of Reclaim the Future, the two-day event provided insights on topics ranging from diversity and inclusion to AI and quantum computing.

Nagin Cox, an interplanetary storyteller and NASA engineer, gave a fascinating talk entitled Ad Astra (to the stars): Before we send humans, we send robots. She discussed the importance of exploring uncharted territories and quoted Ralph Waldo Emerson: Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Viktoriia Itskovych, First Deputy CIO of Kyiv City, shared her experiences of transforming a public transportation app into a digital lifeline during the Russian invasion in February 2022. She stressed the importance of preparing for scenarios that may seem impossible, such as an alien invasion.

Rana Gujral, CEO at Behavioural Signals, discussed how improvements in cognitive AI and speech recognition software can enhance human-to-human communication. She also addressed pressing questions, such as the ethical approach to AI development and the focus on creating empathetic artificial intelligence.

Dr Tom Furness III, founder and chairman at Virtual Worlds, discussed his journey in XR development and how this technology can drive social impact and improve our lives.

Lubomila Jordanova, Founder and CEO at carbon accounting platform Plan A, and Jamie Crummie, co-founder of sustainable food waste app Too Good To Go, spoke on the Growth Quarters stage about the need to act now on climate change. TNW also made an effort to reduce CO2 emissions by offering locally-sourced vegetarian dining options and using only reusable utensils, cups, plates, and packaging.

In addition, there were several side events on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the tech industry. Attendees also had the opportunity to meet with speakers for book signings, and TNW arranged ferry shuttles from Amsterdam Centraal Station for the first time ever.

TNW Conference 2023 was a whirlwind of insights, extraordinary events, and connections across the entire tech ecosystem.
